Victoria Park and the Bowenvale Reserve has some of the most challenging and varied mountain biking in Christchurch, including the Nationals Down Hill Track. Starting at the Summit Road, there is a maze of tracks that will take you for a very fast and sometimes technical ride down through Victoria Park, into Bowenvale Reserve, finishing at the Bowenvale Ave carpark.
HOW TO GET THERE
Head up Dyers Pass Road and turn left at the Sign of the Kiwi and continue up the Summit Road a short way before reaching a car park to your left. From here you can head down the Nationals Track or head through the trees to your left and take the track that weaves down through the gum trees emerging at the Victoria Park Jumps area.
NATIONALS DOWN HILL TRACK
Starting below the Summit Road, just under Sugar Loaf, the Nationals starts with a 3m double jump before heading over the 'A-Frame' accross the fence. It's then down through the rock garden and over several drops including the 'Wall Dropper'. This section then heads down a fast run up to the '40 footer'. Over another jump (or round the 4WD track) and there is a combination of single track and 4WD track. After a fast 4WD section the single track veers sharply up and onto 'Slam the Clam'. Back onto 4WD track before heading into the trees for the Texco jump. Carry on through the trees before getting back onto the 4WD track for the last run down to Bowenvale Ave.
