This is a great ride covering a whole variety of track types from 4WD to single tracks. Although it is mainly down hill, there is a bit of up hill work and fantastic views across the Canterbury Plains, and down into Lyttelton Harbour.
HOW TO GET THERE
Head up Dyers Pass Road and turn right at the Sign of the Kiwi and continue along the Summit Road. Turn right onto Worsley Road, and the track starts a few metres below the car park at the top. (This is also the start of the Worsleys Track)
MARLEYS HILL TRACK / OLD DYERS PASS ROAD (~30 MINUTES)
The track starts with a short climb up a 4WD track where there are great views down into Lyttelton Harbour. You then veers off onto a single track that winds its way down the hill and follows below the Summit Road until you get to the Sign of the Kiwi. Keep to the left for a fun down hill ride on single track before getting onto the Old Dyers Pass Road.
The Old Dyers Pass Road is a rather rough 4WD track that runs along below the Dyers Pass Road. There is a short up hill ride before meeting the Dyers Pass Road. Turn right onto Dyers Pass Road for about half a kilometer before turning left up the Victoria Park access road. Continue the climb up the road for a few hundred metres before turning right through a gate onto a gravel road which leads to the mountain bike jumps area in the middle plateau.
MIDDLE PLATEAU TO BOWENVALE CAR PARK (~20 MINUTES)
You have a few options from the jumps area depending how extreme you want to go. The left track is the steepest, with the one on the right the easiest. All three tracks head down the hill and end up on a single track that carries on down the valley until it reaches the vehicle track, which carries on to the car park at the end of Bowenvale Avenue.
