Bottle Lake is a great place to find varied and fun mountain biking. You can spend a couple of hours going around with the kids, or go hard for a 45 minute workout.
The Crater Track starts at the top of Mt Pleasant Road and runs mostly downhill along some great single track out to Godley Head. You can descend from Evans Pass down the Captain Thomas Track into Sumner or from Breeze Col down the Anaconda to Taylors Mistake.
The Crocodile Track starts at the beginning of the Kennedys Bush Track just beyond the Quarry Hill sub division. Instead of heading up to the farm track to the Summit Road, go through the bike cattle stop on your left and head down the hill for a fast, winding, 1.8kms of single track which comes out at Halswell Quarry.
Godley Head is a great place for stunning views and a challenging ride in single track heaven. Between Godley Head and Evans Pass there is plenty of climbing before enjoying the down hill along the Captain Thomas track to Sumner.
Kennedys Bush Track is a steady climb along a farm track from above the Halswell Quarry up to the Summit Road. This is a big contrast to the very rough, steep & rutted Worsleys Track. The two can be combined for a challenging 2 hour trip.
This is a great ride covering a whole variety of track types from 4WD to single tracks. Although it is mainly down hill, there is a bit of up hill work and fantastic views across the Canterbury Plains, and down into Lyttelton Harbour.
The McLeans Island Track is part of the Waimakariri River Regional Park. It is a well built, fast, smooth track that everybody will enjoy. Turn off Johns Road onto McLeans Island road. The entrance is directly opposite Orana Park. Bikes can be hired on location.
