The Tank Track at Hanmer is great single track through the forest with a good mix of technical and flowing riding. After an initial climb, the Yankee Zephyr is a fast, flowing downhill ride that will see you going back for more.
TANK TRACK (~15 - 20 MINUTES)
Head past the thermal pools up Jacks Pass Road, then turn right up Clarence River Road. Carry on up the hill for a couple of kilometers where you will see a parking area just above a water tank on your right. The track starts in just above the tank and winds it's way through the forest. It is mostly undulating with a few steep sections and tree roots to negotiate, but over-all flows well.
YANKEE ZEPHYR (~15 - 20 MINUTES)
Once you come off the Tank Track, carry on down the hill on Pawsons Road, then turn off the road onto the Yankee Zephyr to your left. This starts with a steady climb with some reasonably steep sections before turning into the forest at the top. From here it is a fast flowing ride weaving down through the trees on mostly smooth single track. Continue over Pawsons Road and follow above the stream over a couple of steep drops before heading back up towards the road.
It's a nice cruise back down Pawsons Road to the Department of Conservation on Jolllies Pass Road.
