Fringed Hill track is a great loop that connects a couple of popular tracks up the Brook Valley. It has a challenging hill climb and a very fast downhill.
DUN MOUNTAIN CODGERS CONNECTION TO TANTRAGEE SADDLE (~15 MINS)
The track starts a couple of km's out of Nelson up the Brook Valley road at the Dun Mounatin Codgers Connection turn-off. It's an easy gradient up a well formed track that takes you past the water works and out onto a shingle road before reaching the Tantragee Saddle.
TANTRAGEE SADDLE TO THE TOP OF FRINGED HILL (~1 HOUR)
From the top of the saddle, head up Fringed Hill Road for a long, steady grind to the carpark at the top. There is no let up so make sure you have plenty of water on a hot day. Once you are at the car park you can turn right for a grade 6 downhill run back down the Devils Tails track to just above Tantragee Saddle.
The sensible option is the 4x4 track to the left.
TOP OF FRINGED HILL TO DUN MOUNTAIN TRACK (~20MINS)
Head down the 4x4 track that follows Cummins Spur that can be, at times, fairly steep and rocky. This meets up with the Dun Mountain Walkway. Take the upper of the two tracks and enjoy a smooth, fast ride down through the forest to the top of Tantragee Saddle. From here you can shoot down the Codgers Connection track that you rode up on, or turn left and head down to the road.
